The Physics of the Big and the Small

Welcome back to Shape of Space! As promised in my previous article about Time, we will be discussing about the physics of everything in the Universe. Have you heard of extremely small quantum particles like quarks, neutrinos, bosons and muons? These names may seem very unfamiliar right? Now, have you heard of really huge things like black holes, blazars, nebulae and the largest group of galaxies known as the Hercules-Corona Borealis Great Wall?

Does Time Exist??

According to Einstein, ‘Time is but a stubborn illusion’. Well, let’s ignore what he actually meant and come back to it later. Instead of seeing time as a tangible object like a dimension or anything, lets see it as something we experience. Time is experienced differently for different people. Read more

The Search for Extraterrestrial Life??

The search for extraterrestrial life and the study of its characteristics is known as Astrobiology. Since time immemorial, humans have always had this mind boggling question lingering in their minds, “Does life exist out there in space?”, “Why are we here on this little blue planet?”, “If alien life exists, why haven’t we contacted them yet?”. “What is the purpose of life?”. Our Solar System

The Solar System – the Cosmic Harbor of our tiny little Blue planet which we call Earth. We are part of the enormous Milky Way galaxy, in one of its spiral arms… known as the Sagittarius Arm. Dive deeper into this huge ocean, and you will find billions of stars, all spread across a diameter of about 100,000 light years. In the center of the Milky Way, you would find the Galactic core – the Powerhouse of our galaxy that keeps these stars together, in their respective orbits around it. One among these stars, in a corner of the galaxy is our average-sized star called the Sun, along with Eight other planets orbiting it. Read more

Black Holes

Black holes! Two words that have fascinated so many people worldwide. In this article, I will be talking about all you need to know regarding black holes.Well, to define a black hole, it is a region of spacetime so dense where even light cannot escape its gravitational pull. Until now, light is the fastest thing that can move- nothing can travel faster than the speed of light in vacuum-(3 x 10^8 m/s). Read more

Let me introduce myself….. I am Adhyantha Chandrasekaran , a student of grade 10 who loves talking forever about space. I first got my interest in space and other subjects related to it, when I read an encyclopedia in my school library in grade 5. From then on, I was excited in knowing amazing facts about our solar system about planets like Jupiter and Saturn which actually have so many moons. Read more
